I saw Lincoln a few days ago, liked it (could have been love but . . .  another time) was upset that Spielberg had his Lincoln regale a crowd with my favorite Lincoln story and thereby forcing me to rewrite the one and only scene Lincoln appears in the second volume of the Hanlin Chronicles, and shared the overwhelming critical response that Spielberg had the chance to end the movie with what would have been one of the great last shots of all time . . . and blew it.

Hence, for now, my (hasty) list of the five best ending shots in movie history (yeah, lied in the title for SEO purposes, sorry).

In no particular order and with many, many apologies:

Rocky: (sigh, if only Stallone had left well enough alone and left the original alone) . . . an ending scene so good, no one cared…
